Bertrand E. Caron

AUBURN – Bertrand E. Caron, 88, of Auburn, passed away bravely on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Clover Manor in Auburn, holding the hand of his incredibly special grandson Bryson Howes.

He was born in Lewiston on May 27, 1935, son of the late George and Alida (Gagnon) Caron. He grew up in Lewiston and attended local schools.

On Nov. 11, 1953, He married Joan L Bertrand of Lewiston after a courtship of three years and started a family together. Some will say it was the “Epic Love Story never written.” During that time Bert worked for his father’s businesses as a service station attendant, Mechanic at Caron’s Garage, and Local Ice-Man until he joined the Army and National Guard. He was a squad leader SP4 and 1″ class gunner October 1954-1962. He also worked with his brother Albert painting and later went on to start his own business Bert Caron Construction in which he had a flourishing business for many years. He tried to retire but just felt like he had no purpose and went back to work again for the local Sam’s Italian Sandwich Shops and Mario’s where he did handy work for the previous owners of Sam’s and the owners of Lee Auto Mall. He will always be remembered for his cabinet making and finished woodwork.

He is survived by his wife Joan L. Caron; his daughter Nanci J. Caron and her partner William Cox, his daughter Brenda L. Giguere and her husband Raymond L. Giguere Jr.; granddaughter Crystal M. Howes; his great grandchildren Bryson J. Howes, Adrianna JL Martinez, and Divine K. Williams who always lit up his eyes.

He was predeceased by his father George Caron, mother Alida (Gagnon) Caron; and his ten sisters and brothers, Lucienne Breton Nault, Roland Caron, Armand Caron, Emilien Caron, Albert Caron. Armandine Vaillancourt, Robert Caron, Marie-Rose Caron, Cecile Montigny Zittel, and Joseph Caron.

The family wishes to give Thanks to Dr. Kenneth Brodsky, Clover-Manor, and Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice for the care, kindness, and

compassion they showed Bert and his family. His nieces Bernice Kirsch, Sherry Bellmore, and Tina Cilley for always being there for us.

There will be a celebration of life at St Peter’s Cemetery inside the large Mausoleum, Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 11 a.m. with Military Honors
