Gerard L. Berube

AUBURN – Gerry Berube, 60, of Auburn died on Aug. 10, 2023, after a long illness. He died peacefully with his loving family by his side. He said, “This is not goodbye, I’ll see you later.” He laughed and joked to the end. He was at peace.

Known to his friends and family as “Gee”, he was born in Lewiston on Jan. 25, 1963, the son of Bertrand and Lillian Berube. He went to Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School. He played little league baseball as a kid and grew up to love all sports, but especially baseball. His dad was so proud to watch him play ball on the field. Gee also loved spending time at the beach, having cookouts with family, and hunting and fishing with his dad and brother. He was a fun-loving soul and very generous. He would always be the first one to offer help to anyone who needed it.

Gee loved his music! His favorite music was older rock and roll such as “Stairway to Heaven” and “Back in Black.” He always had music playing in the background when he was outside in the yard, whether working, or just relaxing.

Gee’s pride and joy was his son, Adam Berube. The two had a very special bond that Gee cherished. The sun rose and set on Adam in Gee’s eyes, and he was a spectacular dad. He spent every available minute with his son, and Adam loved him dearly.

Gee worked in several trades throughout his life, Loring Short and Harmon, various shoe shops, Nason Plumbing, and CMCC.

But his favorite job title that came later was his PCA position working with disabled adults in their home. He was employed by Pathways, then later by John F. Murphy. There, he developed close relationships with clients and colleagues alike. He wanted to give an extra “shout out” to his friend Katie Pulk, who was his co-worker, boss, and later became a dear friend. She helped him get through a lot of the downtime associated with waiting to die. She shared many fond memories of all the years they spent together. The family is very thankful to her for that!

Gee is survived by his dear son, Adam Berube; sisters Anna Theriault and her husband Peter and Rachel Verrill and her husband Marty, brothers Roland Berube and his wife Debra and William Berube; nieces Christina Willis and her husband Ralph, Rebecca Freehill and her partner Andy, Samantha Vachon and her husband James, nephews Steven Berube, and Brian Verrill and his fiancée Jeannette; his uncle, Joseph Berube and his wife Yvonne. He is also survived by several great-nieces, nephews, and close cousins.

He was predeceased by grandparents, Carmen and Albert Berube and Irene and Emile Morin; parents, Bertrand Berube and Lillian Merritt; brother, James Berube; niece, Melissa Stevens; and his uncle, Norman and his wife Mary.

A Celebration of Gee’s life was held while he was still alive at his house in Auburn. “Never leave with regrets.” – Gerry Berube. A tree will be planted in his honor and there will be another gathering/memorial for family and friends at the house of his sister Anna on Sept. 29, our dad’s birthday.

The family would like to thank Androscoggin Hospice Services and the Hospice House for all their hard work and dedication during Gerry’s final days. They do great things for our community.

The family would also like to thank The American Clinicians Academy on Medical Aid in Dying. With their help, Gerry was able to more effectively mitigate his pain and suffering.

Arrangements were entrusted through Funeral Alternatives Cremation Services of Lewiston.
