THE VILLAGES, Fla. – Nathan R. Morris, 86, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023, inThe Villages, Fla. Born in Scarborough, Maine, the son of Ernest and Etta Morris, Nathan was predeceased by a sister,
Maysel, and two brothers, Dana and Bryce. He is survived by his wife, Irene, two sons Ronald and David, two grandchildren Leo and Ella He also is survived by 23 nieces and nephews.
Nate grew up in Saco, graduated from Thornton Academy (1956) and later earned his BS and MS degrees from Nasson College and the University of Maine.
In 1966, Nate and Irene (Walker) of Auburn were married . He taught math in Auburn, North Berwick and Oxford Hills. While at Oxford Hills (1968-70); he helped organized served as first president of the Pi Cone Math League. He also was the principal at Elm Street School in Mechanic Falls (1970-91). Nate and Irene lived in Oxford for 27 years during which he was involved in many civic activities. He was co-organizer and first president of the Oxford-Otisfield Rescue Unit and a member of the Oxford Budget and Appeals Board Committees. He also served on the Board of Trustees at Stephens Memorial Hospital. Nate enjoyed volunteering with youth programs, especially youth baseball, tennis, and cross-country skiing.
Nate moved to Norway in 1996 and worked part-time in land management with Waterford Properties. He found time to stay active with tennis, golf, hiking and biking and was a talented craftsman and had a passion for turning wooden bowls. They enjoyed traveling to Europe on many occasions. In 2014 they retired to The Villages, Fla, where they enjoyed an active lifestyle.
