AUBURN — Dana Staples, a software engineer and volunteer, announced his reelection campaign for an Auburn City Council at-large seat this November.
Serving his first term, Staples said he has worked diligently to find common ground with other councilors in order to come to meaningful solutions to complex problems in the city. During his first term, he brought ideas to fund business expansion in the downtown through the Third Space Incentive Program and to improve Auburn’s streets by establishing guidelines to fund street trees.
“Known for his attention to detail, calm demeanor, methodical approach to learning, and strategic vision, Staples works hard to create solutions to problems by seeking out information about what’s not working in Auburn and learning how other communities have approached similar problems,” a campaign announcement said.
Staples, a software engineering director at WEX, has been employed in the software industry for over 20 years.
Starting in 2015, he has volunteered with several boards and committees in Auburn, including the Lewiston-Auburn Transit Committee, Auburn Public Library board of trustees, the Androscoggin Land Trust Finance Committee, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Lewiston Auburn Complete Streets Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Planning Board, and most recently as chairman of Auburn’s 2020 Comprehensive Plan Update Committee.
A graduate of Edward Little High School, Staples received his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, and his master’s in computer science from the University of Southern Maine. Staples grew up in Minot and chose to live in Auburn during college.
There are two at-large seats on the council. The election is Tuesday, Nov. 7.
