HARTFORD — A man died after being taken into custody Monday night on Pratt Hill Road, according to an Oxford County Sheriff’s Office statement.
Jacob Hackett, 45, of Buckfield was discovered damaging the interior of a home after the owner fled to a neighbor’s house to contact police, Deputy Chief James Urquhart wrote in the statement. Hackett was aggressive, confrontational and began assaulting deputies, according to the statement. As a result, Hackett was tased and placed in handcuffs.
“While deputies were escorting Mr. Hackett in handcuffs from the residence, Mr. Hackett suffered a medical event resulting in first responders performing life-saving measures,” Urquhart wrote.
Rescue crews continued life-saving measures and kept Hackett alive during transportation to a Lewiston hospital — where he died.
The Attorney General’s Office, Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and Office of Chief Medical Examiner are investigating the death, Urquhart said.
