Dorie Oakes and Harry Hamner, both members of the Rumford Falls Eagles Club, recently organized a billiards tournament to raised $1,000 for the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute.

Hamner lost a twin brother to heart-related issues in 2008. Hamner, himself, was treated at CMHVI after discovering he had the same cardiovascular issues as his late brother.

CMHVI brings skilled medical specialists and innovative treatments to the people of central Maine and beyond, including rural areas such as the River Valley region. It provides a wide array of services ranging from conservative medical care and rehabilitation to surgery for common, and sometimes complex, heart and vascular conditions. CMHVI focuses heavily on educating local communities and preventing disease before it develops, according to a news release from Jim Cyr at the vascular institute.

Oakes and the Eagles Club have a long history of raising money for Rumford Hospital and the entire Central Maine Healthcare (CMH) system, particularly for the Bennett Breast Care Center.

“We are all deeply touched by this act of generosity,” said Stephany Jacques, interim president of Rumford Hospital. “This is another example of the close connection members of this community feel to Central Maine Healthcare. Time and time again, the Rumford Falls Eagles Club has taken the initiative to raise funds for our important programs and we could not be more grateful for their support.”
