David E. Gilpatric

NORWAY – David E. Gilpatric, 89, of Minot passed away peacefully on Sunday Aug. 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He will be forever remembered for his sense of humor. David was born on Feb. 7, 1934, in Manchester, N.H., the only child of Wesley and M. Melva (Pettingill) Gilpatric. He grew up in Auburn, graduating from Edward Little High School, and later moved with his family to Minot.

On Sept. 16, 1962, David married the love of his life, Hester (Verrill) Gilpatric. They were married for 62 years and she frequently referred to him as “Poopsie.” He served 34 years in the Maine National Guard before retiring in 1989. David was an active member of Court St. Baptist Church for over 70 years and was extremely proud of his involvement with them. While living in Minot, he was very actively involved in Minot town affairs. He was a member of the West Minot Grange for over 50 years, and a founding member of the Minot Historical Society, where he was the official photographer for many years.

David is survived by his wife Hester; daughter Diane of Lewiston; sons Daniel and Candice of Minot; Douglas and Wendy of Minot; and his grandchildren, who he will be greatly missed by; Sydney, Riley, Zachariah, and Jack; and a great grandchild that will be arriving soon. He was predeceased by his parents, Wesley and Melva; and a son, David Roscoe.

The family invites you to a time of visitation on Monday August 14, from 4-7 p.m., at the Fortin Group Funeral Home, 217 Turner St., AUBURN. A funeral service and celebration of life will take place at a later date.
