My last letter (“Mainers should be wary of Florida governor,” July 11) was critical of what I perceive to be Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ bigoted and racist policies.

An online commenter on my letter hatefully wished that I would soon have transgender neighbors. Truth be told, I would much rather have transgender neighbors than ignorant right-wing white supremacists.

Why can’t we all live by the golden rule?
