DEAR SUN SPOTS: Androscoggin Home Healthcare + Hospice Volunteer Department is expanding the number of volunteers for our Veteran to Veteran Pinning Service that we provide to our patients who have served our country.

If you are interested and would like more information, please email volunteer@androscoggin.org.

The Sun Spots section of the Sun Journal has been such a great source for us to recruit volunteers for the various tasks we have and I really appreciate your willingness to post whenever I have requested it. — Jenny, no town

ANSWER: I am always ready and willing to help and this sounds like a wonderful program for our veterans. If you are a veteran looking for a way to help other veterans in a hospice care situation, here you go. Find out more information at the website: androscoggin.org/get-involved/volunteer, but please reach out to Jenny and she will walk you through what’s needed and give specifics on how you can help a veteran at the end of his/her life journey.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: What has happened to the daily crossword puzzle in the Sun Journal?  Some of the clues are odd and not best suited for the puzzle word. I do the puzzle every day, or I did until this change. Though I read most of the paper, the crossword puzzles and cryptoquip are my favorites as they are fun and relaxing. I hope the paper changes the crossword puzzle back to the way it was, because it is no longer fun the way it is now. — No name, no town

ANSWER: According to our executive editor, the puzzle is the same as it’s been for years and years. So we are puzzled by your question. Has anyone else noticed anything amiss?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A huge thank you to the class of 1963 of Leavitt Institute, First Auburn Senior Citizens, Greene Senior Citizens and the Farmers Marker Patrons in Turner on July 18 and all the patrons at Gowell’s in Greene on July 21 who donated money for Alyssa and Family. I exceeded my goal six times!

The family greatly appreciated everything. Thank you to everyone for their donations, thoughts and prayers for their 9 1/2-year-old daughter. The family was able to do the Make a Wish Disney in Florida trip and a few other outings with Alyssa, a brave, determined little girl. We all wish you good days and love you. — No name, no town

ANSWER: If everyone works together, giving what they can, it can change a life, even many lives. Thank you to everyone who participated in this fundraiser.
