GREENWOOD WinterKids, a nonprofit organization focused on helping Maine children develop healthy habits through education and outdoor winter activities, has announced its newest fundraising event, WinterKids Mountain Mayhem.
This 12-hour mountain bike and trail running event is set for 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Mount Abram, 308 Howe Hill Road in Greenwood.
WinterKids Mountain Mayhem is an opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy the Maine outdoors while supporting a great cause. Participants can choose to participate in either a 12-hour mountain bike challenge or a 12-hour trail run. The event is open to individuals 16 and older, and teams of up to six people of all levels, from novice to expert, according to a news release from the Westbrook-based nonprofit.
“WinterKids Mountain Mayhem is a unique and exciting way for people to support our mission of helping Maine children develop healthy habits through education and outdoor winter activities,” said Julie Mulkern, executive director of WinterKids.
Participants can earn incentives and win a variety of prizes. There will be food, a Mountain Mayhem brew courtesy of Orono Brewing Co., and live music.
