DEAR SUN SPOTS: I just learned that I have to have the shingles on my roof replaced. Do you have insured roofers for the Lewiston/Auburn area in your Rolodex? — Dick, no town

ANSWER: That is an expensive project and you want to have just the right company for the job. I recommend you get at least three estimates.

In the Rolodex, I have Above & Beyond, LLC, Exterior Contractor (http://www.aboveandbeyondonline.com/, 786-9966) and Straight Line Roofing, Inc.; (https://straightlineroof.com, 520-5101). Both these contractors have websites with a convenient online form to request an estimate. There is also Austin & Sons Roofing & Siding, Inc. (693-5078).

Recommendations from neighbors, friends and relatives are always the best, and of course, this counts Sun Spots readers. I’m asking people who have had a recent roof shingle replacement done to please write in.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I need a reliable cleaning service for a single family residence. Does your Rolodex have some suggestions? I read every Sun Spots column and enjoy your information, thanks to your great research. I’ll be watching for your response. — Gerry, Auburn

ANSWER: Currently, I have Jackie’s Cleaning & Maintenance (https://jackiescleaning.com/, 784-0632); Sue’s Residential Cleaning (212-0812); and House Cleaners of Maine, LLC (https://housecleanersofmaine.com/, 517-7330).

It would be good for you to get more than one estimate, conduct a thorough interview and be sure you have a good understanding of what you want to have accomplished, how often you want the house cleaner to come and how to go about compensating them. This person will be in your home regularly so you want to have good communication.

I would love to have my Rolodex updated with referrals for housecleaning services. Please write in if you have someone to recommend or if you are a reader who cleans homes and has room in your schedule for new clients.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding yesterday’s letter about bridal gowns at the Franco Center, I want to add that if anyone has a gown you wish to donate, we will display them as space allows and also offer these to future brides at a very reasonable price, or even free depending on the situation. If donating, the gown should be clean with no repairs needed.

As couples about to be married visit the center to explore the possibility of having their celebration here, having dresses to offer would be an option to assist brides with staying within their budget, but you don’t have to choose the Franco Center as your venue to have one of these gowns.

If you would like more information about donating or needing a dress, call 333-3251 or email events@francocenter.org. — Denise, Lewiston

ANSWER: So many brides hold onto their special dress for years thinking that perhaps a daughter of their own will wear it one day. Time goes by, the dress goes out of fashion, if you have a daughter or two their “style” is nothing like yours was back in the day, and there you are, with a big white dress taking up room in a closet or cedar chest.

I think it’s a lovely idea to donate your wedding gown to the Franco Center and help a new bride. If you want to be part of this new endeavor, please reach out to Denise.
