DIXFIELD — Albert Spaulding of Dixfield celebrated his 100th birthday Saturday at the Dixfield Historical Society on Main Street with nearly a hundred guests.

Spaulding, who officially reached the century mark July 17, is the last living charter member of the Dixfield Historical Society. He has been a member since 1976.

The event was put together by his children, Pam and Alan Spaulding. Many well-wishers shared memories, including Gary DeRoehn, who brought old black and white pictures of people Spaulding knew from the 1930s.

Over a two-hour period, people mingled in and out of the building, many of them also stopping in to have a piece of birthday cake.

State Rep. Tammy Schmersal-Burgess (R-Mexico) and Sen. Lisa Keim (R-Oxford) co-sponsored a Legislative Sentiment that they presented to Spaulding in observance of his landmark birthday.

Spaulding was presented in 2018 with Dixfield’s Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award. At that time, he said Dixfield had been a great town in which to live, work and to raise a family.

Jon Holmes, who nominated Spaulding for the award, said, “Until the age of 90, he was doing 100 push-ups a day, 50 at a time.”

From Little League coach to Sunday School teacher, and various town government committees to school board member, Spaulding has been a huge contributor to Dixfield.

“Any volunteering that I’ve done has been just a slight payment for all the good things that Dixfield has done for me,” he said. “And one final note. Dixfield is not and never has been just another small town.”
