OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The sixth annual Rumble at The Ballpark wrestling tournament will return to The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach this July.

This year’s tournament will feature a youth division to be held on Friday, July 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, July 29, the high school and open divisions will compete from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the historic stadium in Old Orchard Beach.

“We are thrilled to be coming back to The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach for our sixth annual tournament,” tournament organizer Pat McDonald said. “The Rumble at The Ballpark has continued to grow each year and we are expecting this year’s event to be the best yet.”

Last year’s tournament featured over 100 wrestlers in the high school and open divisions and another 50 wrestlers in the youth division.

“Each year we see wrestlers flock to The Ballpark for this unique event and they come from all over Maine as well as states like Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and New York,” said McDonald, who is on the board of directors of the Maine Amateur Wrestling Alliance. “We are hoping to continue to grow this event and attract even more wrestlers from across New England and beyond to beautiful Old Orchard Beach.”

The youth tournament is for wrestlers in grades 3-8 as of the 2023-24 school year.

The high school tournament is for wrestlers in grades 8-12 as of the 2023-24 school year. Eighth graders can choose which tournament to compete in or they can wrestle in both events.

The open division is for wrestlers who are out of high school but still looking to compete. This division has featured past Maine state and New England champions as well as college wrestlers looking to get some matches in during the summer.

The trophies for this year’s tournament are once again baseball bats for the champions of each bracket with medals for second-and-third-place finishers.

The cost of this year’s tournament is $50 per wrestler.
