The RSU 78 Board of Education met on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Rangeley Lakes Regional School. Board Chair Mary Richards provided a list of upcoming important dates and events and congratulated the re-elected board members.

Superintendent Georgia Campbell shared that the 2023-2024 school year budget passed and thanked everyone for their support of RLRS. Mrs Campbell also provided an update on the COPS grant and that a preliminary safety assessment has been completed. In other news, Lindsay Richards is applying for a WinterKids grant and Shawn Russell was recently honored with the Unsung Hero award by the Maine Principals’ Association at the East West Conference banquet.

Principal Seth Laliberte provided his updates via a prerecorded video. Mr. Laliberte was attending the music recital in town. He also extended thank yous to the Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust for working with RLRS students and Mrs. Richards on water and boat safety, and to Jeff LaRochelle for all his hard work driving every bus run while still keeping the physical building running. Mr. Laliberte also thanked families for their understanding.

Student Representative Nichole Lemay shared that the quarter ended on Friday, June 16 and finals were nearly done. The Sophomore class held a successful car wash, the seniors enjoyed their Boston trip and were looking forward to their night at Sarge’s.

Committee Reports included updates from Policy Committee – No July meeting. Next meeting will be in August; Finance Committee – strong finish to the school year. Successfully stayed within the budget constraints. Chris Farmer thanked Roxanne Tanner for her immense help; Facilities Committee met on June 1 and discussed getting quotes for an alternative and/or replacement fuel tank. New white van is working out well to assist with student transportation. Middle School science room cabinets have been ordered and just waiting on a bid for the work. One bid has been received for paving and the old tractor is for sale.

There was one transfer announced: Alison Loud is moving from Grade 2 classroom teacher to the new Technology Integrator/Gifted & Talented Teacher position. There were two nominations: Karen Murphy for Grade 1 classroom teacher and Vanessa Bisson for Grade 2 classroom teacher. Both positions passed unanimously. The Board also accepted the resignations of Dawn Hunter (Ed Tech in Special Education), Jason Aceto (Ed Tech/Interim Teacher), and Rebecca Ellis (Grade 1 teacher). Two appointments were announced: Dallas Libby as an Ed Tech III in PreK in the morning, and in Kindergarten in the afternoon, and Shirley Schrader will move to a part time Ed Tech III in Kindergarten for the morning.

Action items included a motion to approve the computation and declaration of votes dated June 13, 2023. The motion passed unanimously. Policy EEAA-R also passed unanimously.
