REGION — If mud season is Maine’s fourth season, then road construction season is certainly its fifth.

Several Maine Department of Transportation Projects are currently in process around Oxford Hills, some of which are long overdue.

A multi-town paving project on Route 26 began on June 30 that stretches along roads through Oxford, Harrison, Otisfield, Mechanic Falls in Auburn and further south through Gray and New Gloucester. The MDOT project number is 25855.00 and the project manager is Timothy Pelotte. Paving is expected to be completed by the end of September. The contractor handling the work is All States Construction of Sunderland, Mass., with locations in Bangor, Auburn, Limerick and Westbrook.

Road repair to the section of Route 26 spanning Norway and Oxford started about a month ago. The asphalt is being ground and removed, with a new layer paving to follow. MDOT Senior Project Manager is overseeing the program and Northeast Paving of Lewiston and Bangor is doing the work. According to MDOT’s 2023 road work schedule, paving should be done in mid-October.

Route 26 in the area of Oxford’s Skeetfield Road is undergoing multi-modal work this summer. Pratt & Sons of Minot is the contractor for the project. The job is projected to finish by the end of September.

Route 117 in Norway is getting an overlay paving, with Pratt & Sons handling the project. It should be completed by Sept. 29.

In Waterford, Grondin & Sons from Gorham is replacing a large culvert on Route 118. Work started in May and will be done in mid-September.

Replacement of Hall Bridge on Route 117, which spans the Nezinscot River in Buckfield is expected to wrap up in a few weeks. The work is being done by contractor Wyman & Simpson of Richmond.
