DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are writing to ask for help from our communities. We are seeking more volunteers from Androscoggin County to support our elderly clients who are waiting for someone to visit them, provide companionship and to help them with their grocery shopping and errands. We really need support for some of our seniors on our waiting list, who are in their mid-70s to their 90s, in Auburn, Lisbon and Lisbon Falls. It would be great to have a volunteer from their own community.
SEARCH (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew, Courage, & Hope) is a program of Catholic Charities. We have wonderful volunteers who are matched one on one to our elderly clients. They provide three to four hours a week to a senior by providing home visits or by assisting them with transportation for their errands in the community. If you are interested in volunteering with the elderly, we would love to talk to you about joining our program and volunteering with us!
For more information about becoming a volunteer with us, please call our office at 207-784-0157. We will then send you a volunteer application packet and brochure. We hope that you will join our program by becoming a volunteer and help to make a difference in the life of a senior in your community. With much gratitude, — Wendy Russell, program director
ANSWER: If Sun Spotters are looking for a volunteer opportunity, this would be greatly appreciated.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Rumford Senior Citizens are planning a trip to Cape Cod/Martha’s Vineyard on Oct. 2-6. We do not have enough members who would like to go, so we are reaching out to members of the community to see if there is any interest outside of the club members. The cost is $639 per person, including all tips. If anyone is interested, call the Senior Citizen office Monday or Tuesday (closed on the Fourth of July) from 9 a.m. to noon and someone will answer other questions. That number is 207-364-7711. We are hoping to get enough people to help fill the bus. — Eleanor, secretary, Rumford Senior Citizens
ANSWER: This seems like a good deal for anyone interested in a fall getaway. We hope you pack the bus.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Free concerts in the park (to be held inside if it rains) at the Oxford American Legion at 169 King St. in Oxford, are planned for Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Up next, Country Ridge Riders on July 11 and Ultimate Country 2 on July 18.
