100 Years Ago: 1923

Miss Dorothy Elsie Gray, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest A. Gray of Dayton, street, Augusta, has accepted an invitation to dance in the Fourth of July Pageant at Pawtucket, R. I. Miss Gray will typify “The Spirit of Immortality” in the pageant which is called “Makers of America.”

50 Years Ago: 1973

Without a recorded vote, the Senate killed a bill today which would have raised Maine’s gasoline tax from nine to 10 cents a gallon. The controversial measure, which would have helped finance highway construction projects for the next two years, was sent back to the House where it was rejected earlier.

25 Years Ago: 1998

Farmer Albert Bradford was loading up a neighbor’s truck in Turner on Tuesday afternoon with what has become a precious commodity: hay. There’s little of it to go around this year. “We have a little bit left over, so we were willing to let some of it go,” Bradford said. Bradford is one of the lucky ones; he got some of his hay off the fields before the state was battered by relentless rains over the past month.
