50 Years Ago: 1973
Fire Chief Ralph Adams warned store owners today that he and Auburn police detectives will make routine checks in the near future to ensure that fireworks are not sold. The chief noted that fireworks are illegal in the state of Maine. Prior to the Fourth of July Holiday last year, Adams and Detective Peter Haskell confiscated a large quantity of firecrackers, sparklers, and cherry bombs, from several Auburn stores.
25 Years Ago: 1998
Former Beatle George Harrison disclosed that he has been battling cancer since last summer. “I’m not going to die on you folks just yet. I am very lucky,” the 54-year-old singer was quoted as telling the News of the World.
