REGION — While there will be no parade this year, music and fireworks are planned to help celebrate the country’s independence a day early.
Earlier this month it was reported that Katie Rae Grinnell of Livermore Falls and Erica Tripp of Jay were disbanding, that there would be no July 3 parade this year unless others stepped up.
Monday morning, June 26, Jay Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said the fireworks would be set off at dusk with the Jay, Livermore, Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce setting them up.
“This event has become a much anticipated part of the region’s 4th of July festivities,” according to the chamber’s website. “Fireworks are set up at the Spruce Mountain Ski Slope in Jay and are shot over the Androscoggin River. They can been heard and seen from one of several viewing areas, which include various parking lots in Jay and Livermore Falls, the lawn in front of St. Rose Church [a favorite viewing site for many], Chisholm Square, and many homes and front lawns along Main Street.”
While the chamber coordinates the fireworks, the towns contribute to their cost.
Livermore voters approved spending $1,275 for them at the annual Town Meeting in April, Administrative Assistant Carrie Judd said Monday morning.
Jay will contribute $2,275 this year, LaFreniere noted.
Livermore Falls Town Clerk Doris Austin said Monday the town was putting $2,500 towards the fireworks. Information also came in that morning about entertainment in the town’s gazebo, she noted.
Stained Grass, a local bluegrass band that has been together more than 17 years will be performing from 6 to 8 p.m., Austin stated.
The Livermore Falls Gazebo Entertainment Facebook page notes Stained Grass performs every Monday evening, weather permitting. The page also indicates karaoke with Linda Wilson Cote will be in the gazebo from 2 to 4 p.m. on July 3rd.
“I hope we all have fun,” Cote wrote in her post.
