100 Years Ago: 1923

Telephone service in Lewiston- Auburn and Maine is promised by the management of the local exchange. In the meantime, the war of conversation between the Electrical Workers’ organization, which led by Miss Julia O’Connor of Boston and the Telephone Brotherhood, an independent union goes merrily on with the first real test of strength coming Tuesday morning when the strike orders of the Electrical goes into effect at 7 o’clock.

50 Years Ago: 1973

Lewiston’s Board of Finance will meet this evening to discuss the possibility of purchasing a fleet of school buses for the city, an item which was put on the agenda at the suggestion of the Board of Education.

25 Years Ago: 1998

The Maine People’s Alliance joined a statewide effort to inform fishing enthusiasts about high levels of toxins in Maine fish by posting brightly colored placards at boat landings and fishing spots. The group’s neon yellow and pink “Fish Consumption Advisory” contains warnings about limiting fish consumption from the Androscoggin River and other Maine rivers due to PCs and mercury and dioxin contamination.
