LIVERMORE FALLS — With school now out, it is time for parents to think about summer activities to fill their children’s days.
One option is the Spruce Mtn. summer recreation program held at the Area Youth Sports building [the former Livermore Falls High School building], weekdays now through July 28.
Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9 a.m. with Monday through Thursday running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program starts at 9 a.m., ends at noon every Friday. The program will not be held Monday and Tuesday, July 3 and 4.
Children who will be entering grades one through eight are eligible to participate.
“We have a number of trips and fun days for them again this year,” Sally Boivin, program director, noted recently. “Students will meet every morning and will be served breakfast and lunch, free of charge. We will also be working with 4-H Youth Development on science programs for young people entering grades three-five.”
The towns of Jay and Livermore Falls financially support the program, Boivin said. Children from those towns pay $48 for the first child and $33 for each child after. Livermore residents pay $78 for the first child, $48 for each child after. Children from other towns pay $123 per child.
“T-shirts are included with the registration cost this year,” Boivin said. “I ask that kids wear these on field trips.”
Tentatively scheduled field trips include Narrow Gauge Cinemas, FunZ Trampoline, Tabor’s Mini Golf, Dummer’s Beach, Funtown/Splashtown, DEW Animal Kingdom and bowling. A talent show will be held on the last day.
“Spruce Mtn. summer rec’s goal is to always have fun, and always be safe,” Boivin stated.
Signup deadline was Friday, June 16, although Boivin said late registrations will be accepted. Many local high school students are program counselors, she noted.
Applications are available at the Jay and Livermore Falls Town Offices. They should be returned there, not at Spruce Mountain schools, Boivin stated.
