George R. Gilks Sr.

STOUGHTON, Mass. – George R. Gilks Sr. “Bibber”, 89, a resident of Stoughton, Mass. for the past 20 years, passed away on May 18, 2023, at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, Mass. He was the husband of the late Alyce “Jane” (Dow) Gilks.

Born in Rumford, Maine, a son of the late Edward T. and Margaret (McKellick) Gilks, he was raised and educated in Maine.

George was employed by the State of Maine and worked in the transportation agency. Prior to working for the State of Maine, he owned and operated George’s Getty in Alfred, Maine.

His hobbies included working outside, working on cars, and fishing. He loved watching wrestling, western movies and Red Sox games.

He is survived by his children, Janice Conley and her husband Harold Sr. of Dixfield, Maine, Mike Jones of Sanford, Maine, and Lisa Buhan and her husband Donald of Easton, Mass. He is survived by numerous siblings; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also the father of the late George R (Bob) Gilks Jr., Tina Conley, Terry Lare, and Chris Jones.

Service will be held on June 24, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Alfred, Maine.
