For the fourteenth year, organist Robert Ludwig will perform the annual Stars and Stripes Concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, at Church of the Good Shepherd in Rangeley.

The hour-long concert features a varied program of classical, popular, and patriotic music performed on the church’s Allen organ. The concert will conclude with an inspiring patriotic sing-a-long honoring the various branches of the Armed Forces and the United States. The annual concert began in 2008, but was not held in 2020 or 2021 because of COVID.

This year’s program will include a selection of pieces by women composers who are often under-represented on concert programs. Ludwig will play Florence Price’s beautiful “Adoration.” Price (1887-1953) was the first African-American woman recognized as a symphonic composer, and the first to have a symphony performed by a major orchestra. The program will also include music written by Freemasons, such as Haydn and Sousa. There is no admission charge, but donations will be received to benefit the Rangeley Masons Kemankeag building fund to put a concrete footing under the Lodge.

Church of the Good Shepherd is located at 2614 Main St., Rangeley. For more information, email admin@goodshepherdrangeley.org or call 207-864-3381.
