BUCKFIELD — More than a dozen residents attended Tuesday night’s Select Board meeting to meet three of four candidates for two seats on the Select Board and two candidates for one seat on the Regional School Unit 10 board of directors.
Select Board Chairman Robert Hand is running unopposed for reelection after serving about three nonconsecutive years. He works as a paramedic and is the director of a local ambulance service.
The other Select Board candidates are Heather Henley, Michael Averill and write-in Peter Fickett. They are seeking a vacant seat on the board.
Henley was raised in Buckfield and is raising her family in town. She said she has volunteered for several committees in town and serves on the Beautification, Parks and Conservation Committee. One of her goals is to bring the people in town closer together.
Averill, who was not at the meeting, is a lifelong resident of Buckfield with three sons. Unhappy with RSU 10, he is proposing Buckfield leave the school union, which he says will lower the tax rate.
Fickett is a local business owner. At Tilton’s Market where he works, he said he has listened to people’s concerns, and he hopes to bring that skill to the Select Board.
Erin Hinkley and Jennifer Lowell are running for the school board seat held by Jerry Wiley, who has resigned after more than 51 years as a director.
At their business meeting, the Select Board appointed Glen Sevigny to a three-year term on the Planning Board and reappointed Judith Berg to the Budget Committee for one year. Vivian Wadas was named a ballot clerk for Tuesday’s town elections.
The board approved a liquor license and special amusement permit for the Buck-it Grill and Pub at 371 Turner St.
