Maine Veterans’ Homes gratefully acknowledges the Western Maine Veterans Advisory Committee’s role in enriching residents’ lives through their volunteer support of activities organized on behalf of our veterans during the past several years.

An important misnomer bearing correction, however, is the suggestion that at any point during the past three years our residents have been “warehoused.” Caring for our veterans in response to the pandemic has required courage, stamina and vigilant adherence to regulations put in place specifically by state and federal agencies to ensure the safety of the frailest population during an unprecedented disease.

Quality of care is a hallmark of MVH, being awarded three Gold Star Baldrige Awards (Bangor, Machias and Scarborough) and one Silver Star Award (South Paris). Our homes are unique within Maine and among only 43 nursing homes nationwide to achieve the Gold Star rating since 2004.

Coupled with satisfaction surveys showing consistent rankings of “very high,” resulting in the Pinnacle Customer Experience Award, and the nomination of MVH — South Paris Administrator Brad Peck for the 2023 ACHCA Eli Pick Facility Leadership Award — the commitment of our staff cannot be overstated.

We are deeply grateful to our residents, their family members, and our amazing team members who have found creative and safe ways to support quality of life and connection with loved ones.

We are encouraged by current conditions that allow safe interaction once again, as we continue our mission of caring for those who served with the honor and comfort they so deserve.
