The 28th annual Bethel Library Plant sale is scheduled for 9-11 a.m.Saturday, June 17, on the library lawn at 6 Broad St.

The sale is one of the best places to get hardy perennials that have thrived in local gardens. All the plants are donated by local gardeners in the weeks just prior to the sale. This year the sale is later in the spring than usual, meaning that the plants will be larger, according to a news release from organizer Susan Parker.

Plants available this year include lilies, irises, lilacs, ground covers (vincas, hostas, and myrtle) and herbs. Most of the plants are perennials, but other plants — such as vegetable seedlings and house plants — are also included.

Volunteers mark the plants with their name, under which conditions they will thrive, and who donated the plant.

The sale is a unique chance to meet and share ideas with other gardeners. Library volunteers also will offer used books for sale and raffle tickets for a homemade doll house and queen size quilt.

Donations of plants are accepted until the night before the sale.
