“The health situation in Lewiston is alarming,” said Dr. L. J. Dumont, Lewiston health officer, who found four new cases of scarlet fever and nine new cases of measles Friday. He issued an urgent appeal for co-operation by parents in keeping a close watch on their children.
50 Years Ago: 1973
Lewiston police officers were sent on a merry chase this morning when a moose was sighted in the area of Montello Junior High School. Patrolmen Roland Morin and Herbert Saucier chased the creature through city streets and backwoods as far as Tall Pines area before the animal took off for the wilderness. The LPD received several calls from citizens who sighted the animal at about 9:50 a.m., and the chase lasted for about 45 minutes, police reported.
25 Years Ago: 1998

Gov. King participated in the dedication ceremony in Burnham along a stretch of Route 100 that was also named after Cpl. Goodblood, a Burnham native.
