LEWISTON — Community Concepts, Inc. (CCI) recently received a $150,000 Housing for Everyone grant from the TD Charitable Foundation.

CCI is one of 37 non-profit organizations selected from more than 450 applicants to receive a Housing for Everyone grant as part of the TD Charitable Foundation’s signature grant initiative, which has helped support organizations focused on providing affordable housing and affordable housing services since 2005.

CCI is a Community Action Agency serving families and individuals in Western Maine. The TD Charitable Foundation is the charitable giving arm of TD Bank.

In recent years the housing affordability crisis has continued to be a financial burden on families. As individuals and families across the country struggle with inflation and an exponential rise in rental costs, affordable housing providers face increased hardship given the growing demand for affordable rental units and emergency rental assistance, according to a news release from Kelsey Cote, communications manager with CCI.

The grant will support renovation projects at several CCI-owned affordable housing complexes to increase their financial and environmental sustainability. Projects will include replacing oil-burning boilers with high-efficiency propane boilers and replacing aging roofs.

“Community Concepts is committed to supporting creative solutions to Maine’s housing crisis, including investment in and preservation of existing affordable housing options,” said Jim Martin, chief executive officer at CCI. “We deeply appreciate TD Bank’s support with our organization, and this generous grant will allow us to make important investments in energy efficiency projects that will reduce operating costs and support long-term sustainability of these affordable homes.”
