AUBURN — “Experience vs. Memory — How Do They Differ?” is the title of a Senior College in the Community presentation and discussion set for 2 p.m. Thursday, June 1.

The talk will be held in the Androscoggin Room at Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.

Bill Frayer will use Daniel Kahneman’s Ted Talk: “The Riddle of Experience vs. Memory.”

Using examples from vacations to colonoscopies, Kahneman — a Nobel laureate and founder of behavioral economics — reveals how one’s “experiencing selves” and “remembering selves” perceive happiness differently. This new insight has profound implications for economics, public policy, and one’s own self-awareness, according to a news release from Diane Clay of the Senior College Board.

Frayer is a long-time Senior College instructor. He has a degree in English from Brown University and in Adult Education from the University of Southern Maine. He taught for 35 years at Central Maine Community College.
