100 Years Ago: 1923

A new church is to be constructed this summer by Lewiston Greeks. It is being planned to build the larger stone structure on the site of the present wooden frame building that stands on Lisbon street. Just how much money can be devoted to this purpose is not decided. Architects and several Greeks from churches in other parts of the country will meet in Lewiston next week to discuss building. The fact that the congregation is growing rapidly makes it certain that a new church must be built at once, it is said. All the local Greek citizens are behind this new church movement as one man.

50 Years Ago: 1973

(from a Journal photo) These officers of the Androscoggin Historical Society were unanimously re-elected for the 1973-74 season Tuesday night at the annual meeting, dinner and program at the First Universalist Church, Auburn. Left to right are Leon M. Norris, vice president; Mrs. Jane P. Norris, treasurer; Ruth Bishop, membership secretary; Clarence E. March, executive secretary and museum curator; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Perham, guest speakers for the evening; and John W. White, president. Absent was Mrs. Betty Clifford, recording secretary.

25 Years Ago: 1998

Lake Street School PTO in Auburn will hold its annual May Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the school, rain or shine. There will be games, a cake walk, face painting and button making. Items for sale will include crafts, plants, baked goods, used books and household items. There will also be a barbecue and lunch items will be sold. Proceeds will sponsor school activities.
