MECHANIC FALLS — The Town Council has placed a .7 acre lot on 83 Pigeon Hill Road out for bid.

The property was foreclosed due to unpaid taxes amounting to $4,528.26, which is the minimum bid.

It has an assessed value of $46,689.

Bids are due no later than 11 a.m. on June 2.

The council accepted the reimbursement amount of $45,838 from Oxford County due to the fact that Mechanic Falls paid for the training of a police officer who left to go work for Oxford County.

The council unanimously adopted the Community Day Committee as an official town committee.

Kristina Wilson was given permission by the council to sell food at the town’s recreational fields behind the municipal building from May 1 to Dec. 31.

All proceeds from the sale will go toward Christmas in Poland, a nonprofit group.

Town Manager Vic Hodgkins disclosed that a recent purchase-and-sales agreement in the amount of $280,000 for the old medical building at 22 Pleasant St. has fallen through and the building is back on the market.

Councilors put off appointing a council member to the Regional School Unit 16 Task Force. Resident Terri Arsenault has already been named to serve on the panel, which will look at various educational aspects including teacher pay and shortage, buildings and grounds, transportation, and grading systems.
