My thanks to Brielle Daniels. I totally agree with her views on religious beliefs (“Religious beliefs do not determine when life begins,” April 26).

Beliefs are way down in the “Hierarchy of Truth.” Why are they being written into law? The idea that a person can know a person in the womb is akin to my “knowing” every piece of wood that goes into the boats I build. That does not mean that the wood “knows” me.

On the contrary: How many times does the Bible refer to the “breath of life”? I am no biblical scholar, but, I am sure that the term is used more than the “I knew you” term.

When a fetus is capable of breathing and maintaining life functions, only then is it a living human being. That is a very imprecise and variable moment that depends on the resources and wishes of the parents and Mother Nature.

The arrogance of the religious right and the politicians who support those people, who think they can legislate that time and control outcomes, amazes me.
