DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Hartford Heritage Society is gearing up for its annual Plant Sale on May 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the J & O Irish Museum on Route 140/Main Street.

Perennials and smaller plants are $3 each, shrubs and larger plants are $5 each. We are always looking for plants or shrubs that you may have in your gardens and would like to donate. We can help dig them up.

We will also have lots of raffle items in the museum. For more information, call Rosie at 597-2270, Doreen at 224-7147, or Natasha at 212-9353.

No date has been set for a June yard sale at the Hartford Town Hall. As you do your spring cleaning, if you have items to donate, call any of the above people. We have storage in the barn at the museum and can offer some pickup of items. — Doreen, Hartford

ANSWER: Proceeds from these events go toward the upkeep and restoration of the J & O Irish Museum, an historic building in Hartford that housed one of the first stores in the area. It’s now the home of the Hartford Historical Society’s collections.

ANSWER: Along with many other area churches, the church is making a commitment to help others throughout the world, and the plant sale is one of the events they organize to fulfill that goal.

For example, money raised was recently used to assist two local families who lost everything in a devastating fire.

For years, church members have assisted with the Lisbon Area Christian Outreach Food and Clothing Bank, helped homeless families within the school system, provided Christmas gift bags to New Beginnings, and offered heating assistance to area families.

The church holds two blood drives each year in conjunction with the Red Cross and the church building is used to provide space for Girl Scout troops and for a book club to meet.

Recently, the church’s annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny was held with 41 children and 66 adults enjoying free pancakes and sausage. All children were given a craft kit and a bag of eggs.
