COLLEGE BASEBALL
FISHER SWEEPS UMF: the Falcons, an NAIA program, swept the Beavers 13-6 and 28-1 in five innings in a doubleheader in Farmington.
Coby Johnson, Jeremy Renta and Tim Catalano all had three hits and two RBIs for Fisher College in a 13-1 victory in Game 1. Jose Aybar had two hits and drove in three in the win.
Ryan Sargent had a pair of hits and two RBIs for UMF. Derek Gendreau also had a pair of hits while Oxford Hill graduate Hunter LaBossiere homered and had a pair of RBIs.
In Game 2, Michael Stellato had three hits, including two home runs, and drove in seven runs in Fisher’s 28-1 victory. Ivanuel Hernandez had three homers and drove in five, while Yariel Salinas had three hits and five RBIs.
LaBossiere led UMF with two hits.
MAINE 10, THOMAS 0: Jeremiah Jenkins hit his 14th home run of the season and finished with four RBIs and Tyler Nielsen allowed just one base runner over five innings as Maine cruised to a 10-0 win over Thomas in a seven-inning game in Orono.
Nielsen struck out eight, walked none and allowed only one hit.
Jenkins has homered in six of his last eight games and has at least one RBI in 12 consecutive games. He’s tied for 11th in NCAA Division I with 53 RBIs.
The Black Bears (18-12) stole 12 bases, including five by Jake Rainess and four by Quinn McDaniel, who each had two hits and scored three times. Colin Plante was 3 for 4.
SOFTBALL
USM SWEEPS: The Huskies (13-15) collected a pair of walk-off wins to sweep a doubleheader with the Monks (15-15) in Gorham.
Hannah Shields, a former Buckfield standout, scored Meaghan Dufresne on a fielder’s choice in the 10th inning of game one to give the Huskies an 8-7 win. Oxford Hills graduate Lauren Merrill hit a three-run double and Belle Snyder pitched four innings of relief to tally her fourth win of the season. Lydia Goodnough went 2-2 with two RBI and three walks for the Monks.
Rona Scott blasted a two-run homer in the sixth and Ella Bezanson had an RBI single in the seventh as USM rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 in game two. Sylvia Foley and Rylee Page each drove in a runner in the fourth for St. Joseph’s. Lexus McIntosh allowed five hits in a complete game for USM.
