The Lewiston Public Library is a vital community resource.
A partnership with the LPL this year allowed my students in the course “French in Maine” to engage with local French speakers in the community in a welcoming space open to all residents.
As our partner, the LPL just hosted a well-attended screening of the film “The Intersection/Le Carrefour,” followed by a reception (both funded by Bates College). This visually stunning film is a celebration of Lewiston and its people.
Limiting library hours and financial resources would deter such successful collaborations.
The Lewiston Public Library is essential to our residents. It allows us to remain well educated, well informed and interconnected.
Mary Rice-DeFosse, Lewiston, Bates College professor of French and Francophone studies
