HOPKINS HONORED AGAIN: For the third consecutive week, Oak Hill graduate Tiger Hopkins has been chosen as the GNAC Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week.
The St. Joseph’s College freshman, who is from Leeds, scored five goals and assisted on two more in the Monks’ 16-15 overtime win over the University of Saint Joseph.
Hopkins and the Monks (8-7, 6-2 GNAC) were back in action Tuesday against Anna Maria. Hopkins scored two goals and had eight assists as St. Joseph’s won 20-8. Hopkins’ assist on Gray-New Gloucester graduate Scott Lynch’s goal in the third quarter gave Hopkins 77 points this season, which sets a new school record for points in a season, surpassing the 76 scored by Spencer Hunt in 2010.
Hopkins, who holds Oak Hill’s scoring record, now 36 goals and 42 assists this season.
MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
PLAMONDON RECOGNIZED: Nick Plamondon, an Oxford Hills graduate, garnered North Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors.
The Thomas College freshman took first in the long jump and the Monk Invitational. He set school records in that event (22 feet, 7.25 inches) and in the javelin (160-5).
BYRNE EARNS ANOTHER: Bates College senior Liam Byrne was chosen as the NESCAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week.
At the UMass Commonwealth Invitational, Byrne placed third in the hammer throw (181-5), fourth in the javelin (176-6) fourth in the shot put (48-11), and seventh in the discus (138-8).
Byrne’s hammer throw distance is the best in the NESCAC this season and ranks 24th in NCAA Division III.
