DEAR SUN SPOTS: A Lewiston High School Memorial Garden spring cleanup crew will meet at the high school at 10 a.m. Friday, April 21. Our recent efforts have made the cleanup easier, so we plan to be done by noon or earlier. School will not be in session, so we won’t interrupt classes.
For those who wish to help, please bring shovels, rakes, gloves, clippers, etc. We will meet at the front entrance to the school at 10 a.m., but if you arrive later, you can walk around to the back of the school and join us there. We hope to get the garden ready for Memorial Day. For more information, contact me at 375-8105. — Jon, Sabattus
ANSWER: Excellent! I hope to promote as many Earth Day Weekend activities as possible in the days ahead. Let’s see how many we can get in the column. Sun Spotters are so good at joining in to make the world a better place so let’s suggest lots of activities to choose from and do a sun dance so Earth Day Weekend is glorious.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read the March 29 Sun Spots about the rental property that’s not being taken care of properly. We have lost our third maintenance person where I live and there is no one to fix things. It’s so discouraging. We have some trees that need to be trimmed too and are being told it will happen “soon.”
I took your suggestion, wrote to the property office, and got an email back today. They are aware of the situation and are taking bids to get the work done on the trees. If nothing else, it made me feel better. Now we wait for something to happen, at least knowing the concerns are out there. — Gigi, no town
ANSWER: I hope you get these matters resolved soon. Don’t be afraid to be a squeaky wheel. Keep things professional and pleasant but get your point across if you see safety issues on the premises that need attention.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m writing to thank the person who found one of my expensive cut-proof work gloves. He/she must have found it in the road near where I was working in the woods. The glove was hung on a branch with yellow surveyor’s tape and a little note that said, “Found your glove — be safe!”
What a good human you are to take the time to do this. — Brent, no town
ANSWER: Thank you for sending your words of appreciation out through Sun Spots. There are many stories like this one in the archives and that makes me happy.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want to remind folks that if they are donating to nonprofits that are helping unhoused people, basic supplies are needed such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, toilet paper, disposable wipes, sanitary pads and tampons, underwear, socks, combs and hairbrushes, soap and deodorant. It’s important that we remember to help them keep some dignity through their individual situations. — Marie, Lewiston
ANSWER: I hope that next time Sun Spotters make a Walmart or Dollar Store run, you’ll pick up a few extra items to donate to someone who could really use them.
