BUCKFIELD — Longtime Rescue Chief Floyd “Chip” Richardson has resigned, Town Manager Cameron Hinkley announced at Saturday’s Select Board meeting.
The board met Saturday following the second of two public hearings on the proposed annual Town Meeting warrant.
No reason was given for Richardson’s resignation.
Having led the department since 2014, Richardson asked Hinkley to name Deputy Chief Andrew Wickson as acting chief until a full-time person was named, but Wickson also decided to resign, Hinkley said.
Hinkley appointed Cassie Greenwood to serve as interim chief, which she accepted.
“I have no doubt that Buckfield Rescue will be fine,” Hinkley said. “We’re still in a good place.”
Following the public hearing on the warrant, the board agreed with a resident and made a change to Article 30, which deals with revenue. It was pointed out that $6,000 has been in the cemetery reserve account for a few years and not designated for any project.
The board unanimously agreed to take $3,000 from the account and add it to the revenue line. The board then accepted the warrant as amended.
Residents at both public hearings praised Hinkley and the board for their diligence in getting the warrant completed in a timely matter.
Voters will go to the polls Tuesday, June 13, to vote on the articles. Because the warrant is completed early, officials will be able to use the voting machine to tabulate the votes, instead of performing a hand count.
It will be the first time since 2019 that the town has scheduled its annual meeting to vote on the municipal budget and other business before the end of the fiscal year, which is June 30.
In two of the past three years, the meeting was held in August, while in 2021, it was held the last week of September, three months into that fiscal year.
In other business, the board appointed Glen Sevigny to the Appeals Board.
Hinkley and Selectman Azalea Cormier were appointed to represent the town on the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments.
The board met in executive session for 16 minutes for a personnel issue.
