OXFORD — Justin Campbell’s State Farm Insurance is sponsoring its first pet adoption fair on March 25 at the Station House Community Center on King Street in Oxford.

The fair starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m.

Several rescues will be on hand with adoptable dogs for the event along with  local area businesses that support pet care and health.

Agency owner Justin Campbell is a self-described pit bull fan, having adopted his constant companion Rex six years ago from the Greater Androscoggin Human Shelter.

Responsible Pet Care of South Paris will bring some of its dogs looking for forever homes, and even though the fair is a cat-free event, the shelter will feature feline photos and stories for anyone looking to add a cat to their family.

Pulled from the Pits, Blessed be the Bullies and Maverick and Me rescue groups will also have special dogs in attendance.

While adoption applications for a chosen pet can be completed by attendees, only those adopters who have been pre-approved by the individual rescue organization will be able to take their new friends home the same day.

Approval requirements may include veterinarian references and home visits.

Adoption fees vary by group. Potential adopters are encouraged to find out the rescues’ policies and pricing ahead of March. 25.

Campbell says an adoption fair featuring pit bulls is a natural fit for State Farm Insurance agents.

“State Farm is a dog-friendly insurer,” he said. “Many insurance companies will not insure homes with certain dog breeds, especially pit bulls. But State Farm will not turn anyone with one of these dogs away.”

Among the pet care businesses attending the fair are Norway Veterinary Hospital, Mooselands LLC, which sells antler dog chews, the Groom Room, which will provide free nail trims, and Farm Dawgz Daycare & Boarding.
