Bates College senior Nathan Berry received Academic All-America honors by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.

Berry, a Psychology major, was named to the Division III third team. He currently carries a cumulative grade-point average of 3.83.

The Augusta native is the 19th Bobcat honored by CSC with Academic All-America distinction. He’s the first swimming Academic All-American in Bates athletics history.

Berry’s latest honor days after earning six All-America awards at last week’s NCAA Division III championships. That gives Berry 10 All-America honors for his career, which is tied for second-most by any Bates male athlete, along with 2013 grad David Pless, who was a standout thrower on the Bobcats’ track and field team. Swimmer Teddy Pender, a 2018 grad, earned 11 All-America honors during his career.

BATES 12, KEUKA 4: Ella Maher was 3 for 3 with a triple, scored three runs and drove in one as the Bobcats (4-1) beat the Wolves (0-5) in a game shortened to five innings in Clermont, Florida, on Tuesday morning.

Madison Hollis, Rachel Liazos and Grace Householter each drove in two runs for Bates. Cassidy Musco added three hits and scored twice.

WISCONSIN-OSHKOSH 7, BATES 1: Sophie Wery homered and drove in three runs as the Titans (14-0) beat the Bobcats (4-2) in Clermont, Florida, on Tuesday afternoon.

Kennedy Jones had the lone hit for Bates, a two-out single in the first inning. Ella Maher scored on a fielder’s choice by Maggie Hillwig in the seventh.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
SOUTHERN MAINE 19, UMAINE-FARMINGTON 2: Rachel Shanks provided six goals for the Huskies (2-5) as they opened a 7-0 lead after one period and pulled away to a 14-0 halftime margin, topping the Beavers (0-3) at Gorham.

Maddie Kinney had two goals and dished out four assists for Southern Maine, while Emily Cloutier, Cierra Hill and Julia McKenna each chipped in with a pair of goals. Lewiston grad Cece Racine, who started in goal for USM and played the entire first half without a facing a shot, scored two goals in the second half.

Emma Bourget had both goals for UMaine-Farmington. Abby Trefsger notched an assist on the first goal, and Kate Nowell made seven saves in net.
