PARIS — The Oxford County Commission will hold a public hearing Tuesday on a proposed change to where residents of Albany Township cast their ballots.
The hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday at the commissioners’ office in the county building at 26 Western Ave.
Commissioners are proposing to discontinue the use of the Albany Town House, where residents have traditionally voted. The Town House is at the intersection of state routes 5 and 35, or Vernon Street and Hunt’s Corner Road. It was built in 1848.
Albany Township is an unorganized territory in Oxford County between Waterford and Bethel.
If adopted, the change will allow Albany Township residents to register and vote in a nearby municipality of their choice, for instance where they register their vehicles. That would align the township with all the other unorganized territories in the county where residents can choose their voting location.
The county had previously paid for a registrar of voters who oversaw all elections in Albany Township. That individual has retired, according to county officials.
