The Maine Nordiques stopped Jakub Krebecek’s four-game shutout streak Friday night.
Maine defeated the Philadelphia Rebels 2-1 at the Hollydell Ice Arena in Sewell, New Jersey in an NAHL East Division contest.
Midway through the first period is when the Nordiques (28-17-3, 59 points) broke Krebecek’s (17 saves) shutout streak when Oliver Genest found the back of the net for the 17th time this season.
Linemates Aidan Coupe and Kellen Murphy had the assists.
Kim Hilmersson stretched the Nordiques lead to 20 at the 10:40 mark of the first period – 39 seconds after Genest’s tally. Laurent Trepanier and defenseman David Helledy set the goal up.
Max Hamstad broke Thomas Heaney’s shutout bid with 1:27 remaining in the game to get the Rebels (23-23-2, 48 points) on the board. Heaney made 29 saves in net for the Nordiques.
Both teams were scoreless on the power play.
Maine maintains third place in the East Division, two points ahead of the Northeast Generals who defeated the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks 5-2 Friday night. The Nordiques are just four points behind the New Jersey Titans for second place in the division.
The Nordiques and Rebels face off again Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at Hollydell Ice Arena.
