After a standout girls’ basketball season, Cheverus junior Maddie Fitzpatrick has an award to show for her work.
Fitzpatrick was announced Wednesday as the Maine Gatorade Player of the Year in girls’ basketball. She’s the first Cheverus player to win the award in its 38-year history.
Fitzpatrick guided the Stags to the Class AA North final while averaging 17.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game. Her last game of the season was one of her best, as she scored 28 points and pulled down 17 rebounds in a double-overtime loss to Oxford Hills in the regional final.
Fitzpatrick has committed to play at the University of Maine after high school.
