Mandy Barton, left, and Jane Costlow, both of Auburn, paint a labyrinth Monday on the floor of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Lewiston. Members of Trinity have been working on the symbol often used for meditation for the past couple of weeks after pews and carpet were removed as the church is being repurposed as a performing arts, meeting, and classroom space. The labyrinth is being painted red because red is a traditional symbol of welcome within the Episcopal Church, said Costlow. Once Monday’s coat is dry, the stencil will be removed and the labyrinth will be revealed to the public Wednesday. “That is going to be so ridiculously satisfying,” Barton said about the long process of three coats of paint.
