DENMARK — A fire late Saturday afternoon damaged a house and killed pets and livestock at 589 Bull Run Road in Denmark, according to officials.
No injuries were reported in connection with the blaze, which was reported at 5:25 p.m. Saturday and remained under investigation Sunday.
Crews from nine communities responded to the fire, but were forced to wait to fight flames until Central Maine Power Co. could cut power to the area, Chief Chris Wentworth of the Denmark Fire Department wrote in an email.
Flames burned through a power line, which was still live when it fell to the ground and crossed all points of access to the fire.
“Upon our arrival, the fire was through the roof and the attached garage was fully involved,” Wentworth said. “We were expecting a long response time on a weekend night, and could not directly attack the fire until that downed line was secure.”
CMP cut power shortly after the request went out, but flames that had reached the house’s attic and roof had firefighters battling flames until about 10:30 p.m., Wentworth said.
The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and United Ambulance also responded to the fire.
