Officers of the Franco-American Heritage Center appear to be overstepping the original reason for the creation of this beautiful venue with a name change to Riverfront Performing Arts and Events.

This is a slap in the face to the many, many contributors and volunteers who have given time and money to make the center what it is today. The Franco-American Heritage Center at St Mary’s is a testimony to the Franco-Americans who settled in Lewiston in and around what was Little Canada.

The column submitted to the Sun Journal signed by Rita Dube, Lionel Guay and Larry Gilbert says it all (“Franco Center should continue to be a beacon of Franco heritage,” Feb. 12).

The officers of our Franco-American Heritage Center should be ashamed of themselves, and apologize for this attempted name manipulation. There should never be a change to the given name.
