FARMINGTON — Area teams claimed six of the eight conference ski titles at the KVAC and MVC Alpine and Nordic championships Saturday at Titcomb Mountain.
The Mt. Blue boys and girls swept the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference’s Nordic titles, and the Mt. Blue girls won the Alpine title. Edward Little earned the KVAC boys Alpine championship.
The Mountain Valley/Dirigo girls and Mt. Abram boys are the Mountain Valley Conference’s Alpine champions — the third straight for the Roadrunners — while Orono won the boys and girls Nordic titles.
Mt. Blue also enjoyed individual success. Taylor Gordon was the top overall girls finisher in the girls slalom with a time of 1:19.13. Teammate Katie Yeaton finished second with a time of 1:23.95, and Sophie Simard of Edward Little/Leavitt (1:24.14) was third.
Gordon also won the giant slalom on Wednesday at Saddleback.
The Cougars’ Henri McCourt and Bridget Reusch followed up runner-up finishes in Tuesday’s freestyle races at Black Mountain with classical titles Saturday.
McCourt also won the boys classical pursuit title, beating out freestyle winner Logan Ouellette of Leavitt, who finished second in Saturday’s classical and pursuit. Edward Little’s Orrin Slover placed third in the pursuit.
The Cougars’ girls Nordic team clamed five of the first six places in the freestyle, but managed to be even more dominant Saturday, with the top five finishers and six of the top seven. Behind Bridget Reusch was Moriah Reusch, then Nora McCourt, Maya Kellettt and Natalie McCarthy. Edward Little’s Kat Garcia took sixth and Mt. Blue’s Lucinda Carroll was seventh.
Nora McCourt, who won Tuesday’s freestyle, is the classical pursuit champion, followed by Bridget Reusch, Moriah Reusch, Kellett and McCarthy.
Mountain Valley/Dirigo won the girls Alpine title on the backs of Lily Boulanger’s individual MVC championship win in the slalom and her sister Jaden Boulanger’s giant slalom title Tuesday. Lily Boulanger finished the slalom in 1:21.82, the second fastest time Saturday behind only KVAC champ Gordon. Jaden Boulanger placed second in the MVC with a time of 1:22.91. Amelia Stokes (1:24.55) of Rangeley took third.
The boys KVAC and overall slalom titles went to Camden Hills’ Landon Marquis (1:15.67), who beat out No. 2 overall finisher Thatcher Riley of Maranacook (1:16.91) for the top spot. Edward Little’s Evan O’Donnell (1:19.74) finished third, and Mt. Blue’s Trent Beaudoin (1:20.09) was fourth.
Marquis also won the giant slalom, as did Mt. Abram’s Charlie Pye, who on Saturday ran away with the MVC boys slalom title with a time of 1:19.28. Winthrop rounded out the MVC podium finishers with Will Grant (1:26.59) placing second and Jaxon August (1:27.21) third.
The Roadrunners’ success wasn’t limited to the Alpine course. Mt. Abram’s Jeff Warnock had a remarkable day on the Nordic track, winning both the classical and the classical pursuit four days after claiming the freestyle title to make it three titles of three.
“For most of my time doing Nordic, there were a couple other skiers on the team that were faster than I was. But now that I’ve improved a lot, I’ve been able to fill their shoes, now that they’re not here,” Warnock said. “As a team, it’s great to have the success we had. We have a lot of hard-working skiers.”
Orono swept both MVC Nordic team titles with Ruth White winning all three races for the girls.
