FRYEBURG — Lucas Libby’s 152-pound championship boosted Mountain Valley to a third-place finish at the Class B South wrestling regional Saturday.
Wells won the regional title with 244.5 points. York (128) was second, followed by Mountain Valley (126). Dirigo (78.5) took seventh, Monmouth/Richmond (42) 11th, Lisbon/Oak Hill (14) was 14th and Winthrop (13) was 15th.
Libby won his division by beating Lincoln’s Jayden Lafrenaye by as 12-7 decision.
Three of Libby’s Mountain Valley teammates reached the finals and finished second: Chance Watson (113 pounds) lost to Erskine’s Wynn Pooler, Nate Gamache (138) was defeated Wells’ Griffin Brickett and Kaden Paaso (182) was pinned by Erskine’s Timer Parlin.
Robert Leveillee added a third-place showing in the 195-pound class for the Falcons.
Other winners include Oceanside’s Madolin Ripley (106) and Gavin Ripley; Wells’ Calvin Chase (120), Karter Crosby (126), Brody Maxon (145) and Eli Potter (170); Winslow’s Caden Trask (160); York’s Ben Ronca (195); Medomak Valley’s Marshal Addy (220); and Erskine’s Tyreke Burke (285).
Area wrestlers who finished in the top four: Eli Lindus (126) and Isaiah Bradeen (220) and Andrew Wisecup (285) took third and Tanner Bradeen (152) was fourth for Dirigo; Quade Black (182) placed third and Sam Schultz (145) fourth for Monmouth/Richmond; Winthrop’s Avry Jones (182) was fourth and Oak Hill/Lisbon’s Demetrius Clark (195) each placed fourth.
