FREEPORT — Jace Bessey hit a 3-pointer with 2.2 seconds left to lift Spruce Mountain to a 48-45 nonconference boys basketball win over Freeport on Saturday.
All seven of the Phoenix’s (11-2) field goals after halftime were from beyond the arc. They made 10 treys in the game, and the two teams combined for 17.

Spruce Mountain’s Ian York (five 3s) led all scorers with 20 points. Bessey (three 3s) added 11 points, ands Lucas Towers scored nine. Connor Blanche hit two 3-pointers in the third quarter and finished with six points.
Connor Slocum paced the Falcons (4-10) with 10 points, while Max Maneikis hit three 3s and had nine points. Will Maneikis also scored nine, and JT Pound finished with seven.
OAK HILL 59, POLAND 57: Cooper Scott hit the game-winning shot with 10 seconds left to play, giving the Raiders (3-11) a nonconference win over the Knights (3-10) in Wales.
Scott had a big game, finishing with a game-high 24 points, which included two 3-pointers. Ethan Vattaso added 12 points, while Landen Denis scored nine, Maverick Swan had eight and Gage Spier contributed six.
Poland’s Hayden Christner made four 3s and scored 17 points. Hunter Brackett chipped in 13 points. Eli Alexanded had eight and John Patenaude and Damon Howze each scored six.
DIRIGO 56, NYA 45: Charlie Houghton scored 16 points to help the Cougars (15-0) fight off the Panthers (5-9) in Yarmouth.
Nathaniel Wainwright added 11 points, Dakota Thompkins had 10 and Trenton Hutchinson scored nine for Dirigo.
Moses Semuhoza paced North Yarmouth Academy with 17 points, including four 3-pointers. Colin Roderick made three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points.
MONMOUTH 86, WISCASSET 25: Kyle Palleschi led the Mustangs (10-3) with 16 points as they rolled to a victory over the Wolverines (0-12) in Wiscasset.
Bingham Abbott added 12 points and Hunter Frost finished with 10. Lucas Harmon grabbed 19 rebounds to go with his eight points.
Dylan Akers led Wiscasset with seven points. Mason Clark had six.
MT. ABRAM 79, MADISON 52: The Roadrunners (9-3) took control early and earned a home win over the Bulldogs (6-6) in Salem Township.
Mt. Abram outscored Madison 23-7 in the opening quarter.
Kaden Pillsbury paced the Roadrunners with 22 points. Three other Mt. Abram players scored in double figures: Payton Mitchell had 17, Cam Grey scored 14 and Dylan Thorne finished with 11.
Callan Franzose led the Bulldogs with 21 points, while Deacon Murray had 12 and Brode Strout 11.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 80, LAKE REGION 44: Nate Hebert buried five 3-pointers on the way to 24 points as the Patriots (11-3) raced past the Lakers (6-9) in Naples.
Max Kenney contributed 14 points. Carter Libby followed with 10.
Jackson Libby paced Lake Region with 21 points.
CHEVERUS 62, LEWISTON 51: Silvano Ismail scored 15 of his 25 points in the second half to help the Stags (11-4) defeat the Blue Devils (11-3) in Lewiston.
Ismail was 11 for 12 at the free-throw line. Leo McNabb added 17 points and Gio St. Onge had nine.
Eli Bigelow paced Lewiston with 23 points. Caed Langley scored 12.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 74, ST. DOMINIC 45: Landen Johnson scored 19 points to lead the Seagulls (14-1) past the Saints (5-8) in Auburn.
Brady Croteau added 16 points and Diamond Hakizamanas tossed in 11 for Old Orchard Beach, which led 20-6 after one quarter and 37-11 at halftime.
Taylor Varney paced St. Dom’s with 15 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 40, LAKE REGION 35: Isabelle Morelli scored 16 points to lead the Patriots (12-2) past the Lakers (11-4) in Naples.
Lake Region’s Bella Smith was the only other player in double figures, finishing with 11 points.
OAK HILL 54, POLAND 44: Peyton Gonya made five 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead the Raiders (6-7) past the Knights (0-13) in Poland.
Gonya hit a buzzer beater at the end of the first quarter, and Aubrey McElhaney made one at the end of the third for Oak Hill. McElhaney finished with 13 points.
Thea Thornton led Poland with 12 points, and Gretchyn Paradis added eight points.
HALL-DALE 69, WINTHROP 44: Amanda Trepanier had 23 points to pace the Bulldogs (12-2) as they rolled past the host Ramblers (9-1) in Winthrop.
Hayden Madore added 18 for Hall-Dale.
Morgan Fichthorn and Madeline Wagner scored 13 points apiece for Winthrop.
MADISON 48, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 38: Raegan Cowan poured in a game-high 19 points to pace the Bulldogs (9-4) past the Falcons (6-7) in Rumford.
Madi Dow scored a team-high 12 points for Mountain Valley. Layce Boucher dropped in eight, Ella Young notched six points and seven rebounds, and Brooke Bennett tallied four points and 10 rebounds.
CHEVERUS 66, LEWISTON 29: Maddie Fitzpatrick’s 18 points led the Stags (14-2) to a win over the Blue Devils (5-10) at Lewiston.
Emma Lizotte chipped in 15 points and Megan Dearborn scored 11 for Cheverus, which led 21-1 after the first quarter.
Lewiston’s Natalie Beaudoin scored 13 points.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 66, ST. DOMINIC 21: Sarah Davis sank four of her six 3-pointers in the first quarter and scored 22 points overall as the Seagulls (12-3) defeated the Saints (2-11) in Auburn.
Davis (12 points) and Elise MacNair combined for 22 points in the first eight minutes, helping Old Orchard build a 24-5 lead.
MacNair finished with 19 points.
Charli Apodaca scored 12 points and Ava Apodaca had nine for St. Dom’s.
NYA 85, DIRIGO 32: The Panthers (14-0) got 21 points from Graca Bila, 17 from Charlotte Harper-Cunningham and 14 from Ella Giguere in a win over the Cougars (4-12) at Dixfield.
Harper-Cunningham made four 3-pointers in the first half and Bila scored 14 points to help NYA build a 49-15 lead.
Seven players had at least seven points for NYA. Angel Huntsman finished with seven points and 11 assists.
Dirigo’s Grace Robbins sank five 3-pointers for 15 points. Jayce Brophy scored nine.
FREEPORT 41, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 34: Emily Groves led the Falcons (7-7) with 12 points and Sydney Gelhar scored 11 in a victory over the Phoenix (11-1) at Jay.
Jaydn Pingree tallied 11 points for Spruce.
