PARIS — The Select Board on Tuesday approved an application for the town’s first medical marijuana store.

Corey Matheis of Waterford has been issued a license by the town to operate Flower Haus Cannabis Co., Selectman Peter Kilgore said Thursday.

The business will operate in a store storefront in the Save a Lot shopping complex on  Main Street.

Town Manager Dawn Noyes said the business meets all requirements for distance from schools and churches.

Residents passed the new marijuana ordinance in November by a wide margin.

In other business, the board gave Noyes and Highway Director Jamie Hutchinson permission to get bids for a new truck, which if approved, may not be available until 2024 or 2025.

The town does not have a spare truck.

Two trucks and a loader broke down and were not in service for this past weekend’s snowstorm. Noyes and the board praised the Highway Department for their efforts to clear the roads despite being down two trucks.

She expressed frustration with comments on social media about the slow pace of cleaning roads and said crews worked 24 hours during the storm.

Noyes said mechanics have since repaired the vehicles, which were in use for Thursday’s storm.

The lack of a baseball director may force the town to cancel its recreation baseball/softball programs for youngsters unless someone steps up immediately, Noyes said. The position pays $1,000. The director oversees the programs from T-ball on up to older children. She said she didn’t think it was fair to run a softball program without having a companion baseball program.

The board approved a liquor license for Stars and Strikes Bowling Center on Park Street.

A total of $98,000 remains from the town’s allotment from the American Rescue Plan Act, Noyes said.

Noyes is proposing an 8% cost-of-living increase in wages for town employees. She is also proposing an increase in the stipend for selectmen from $1,130 per year to $1,300, or just over $14 per month. The stipend has not increased since 2009 and must be approved by town voters.
